The true story of Pierre Penelope Pussycat began more than 50 years ago.
Pierre isn't an imaginary character. He is a real stuffed animal, given to a little girl in the late 1960s. With his curly golden fur, enormous plaid pants, permanently tilted head and—despite being called a pussycat—absolutely no tail, Pierre was already rather unforgettable.
But then her father gave him a voice.
Suddenly, Pierre had a personality. He was curious, slightly shy, occasionally mischievous and always ready for an adventure. Through a father's stories and a child's imagination, an ordinary stuffed toy became someone very real.
More than half a century later, Pierre is still here.
And apparently, he still has places to go.

The True Story of Pierre Penelope Pussycat
Pierre Penelope Pussycat is not an imaginary character.
He was a real stuffed animal, given to me when I was a little girl in the late 1960s. He had curly golden fur, enormous plaid pants, a permanently tilted head - and, despite being called a pussycat, absolutely no tail.
But Pierre's real magic came from my father.
My dad gave Pierre a voice, a personality and a life all his own. Pierre was curious, slightly shy, occasionally mischievous and always ready for an adventure. Through my father's stories and imagination, an ordinary stuffed toy became someone very real to me.
Pierre went places. He investigated things. He had opinions. He encountered mysteries and embarked upon adventures far larger than a little stuffed pussycat reasonably should have been able to manage.
And I believed every bit of it.
More than half a century later, I still have Pierre.
Time has left its marks on him, as it does on all well-loved things, but when I look at him I don't simply see an old stuffed animal. I remember the stories. I remember being little. Most of all, I remember my dad sitting there and giving Pierre his voice.
The Adventures of Pierre Penelope Pussycat was created from those memories.
The adventures in these pages are new, but the little fellow having them is not.
Pierre has been adventuring for more than 50 years.
It seemed about time someone wrote some of them down.
Affectionately dedicated to my dad, who sleeps now but is still ever present with me.
